Yet another study shows the benefits of gastric bypass surgery. In a September issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, scientists looked at 387 patients who had had a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. They compared these people to other morbidly obese people who never had bariatric surgery. The study compared how the two groups of people where doing after 6 years of follow-up.
People who had diabetes before gastric bypass had a 62% likelihood of still being in remission of their diabetes after 6 years. That compares to only 6% of the diabetics who never had weight loss surgery. Not only that, but gastric bypass also prevented non-diabetic people from ever developing the disease. Additionally, bariatric surgery improved high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
Gastric bypass is more than just weight loss surgery. Not only does it offer better weight loss than any other diet, exercise, or medical treatment, but it also helps with many other health problems.
